Floating insulation covers: evaporation and heat loss reduction

Floating modular insulation cover retains heat in a system when the ambient temperature falls below the liquid temperature.

Processes where stored water has to be kept above ambient temperature are very expensive to maintain when not properly insulated. In the oil industry, fracking water is generally heated to about 70°F before it is injected down the wellhead. The tanks that holds these warm waters are heated all winter long to maintain the desired temperature and to keep the water from freezing. Adding a floating cover will reduce heat loss, reduce evaporation and drastically decrease heating cost.

In a wastewater treatment plant, the retained heat assists with the biological degradation of waste materials and minimize thermal shock of effluents when added to a lagoon. Bacterial activity is directly proportional to water temperature, which directly affect the wastwater sewage plant overall efficiency.

A highly effective insulation floating cover will limit heat loss and considerably reduce heating cost. The Hexprotect MAX R cover can also be used for shielding waste water and effluent lagoons from sunlight and prevent algae blooms. Furthermore, it will reduce odors by reducing evaporation of volatile compounds from lagoons and open tanks.

Added advantages of installing a floating cover

Covering a lagoon has many added benefits besides reducing heat loss.

  • Reduction of liquid loss through evaporation by up to 95%.
  • Reduced chemical consumption.
  • Heating costs reduced by up to 90%.
  • Odor containment. Less exposed surface area results in less odor emission..
  • Camouflage pond basins from waterfowl / bird deterrent
  • Improved working environments.
  • Reduces sunlight penetration, precluding growth of algae and clogging weeds.
  • Reduce ice formation

Modular covers advantages versus solid covers

All our covers offer substantial advantage over solid covers:

  • Less Expensive
  • Each tile is made of long lasting, UV resistant, high quality HDPE
  • Allow movement of equipment through liquid. Unlimited and easy access to the liquid.
  • Adjust to the variation of the liquid level by spreading & stacking
  • Naturally Self arrange and interlock on the liquid surface
  • Virtually maintenance free
  • Cannot tear like conventional solid cover
  • Aeration can be installed underneath
  • Reduce chemical consumption.
  • Unaffected by rain water
  • No vegetation growth on top.
  • 10 Year warranty
  • Life expectancy of 25 years
