Pricing Guidance

What Drives Floating Cover Pricing

AWTT floating covers run $1.75 to $7.00 per square foot depending on insulation level and order quantity. There is no installation cost and no anchoring cost — the delivered cover is the whole project.

Indicative Price Ranges

Three tranches, set by how much insulation the cover carries. Within each tranche the rate falls as order quantity rises — the low figure applies at 100,000 sq ft and above. These are budgeting bands, not a quotation.

Tranche Products Insulation USD / sq ft USD / m²
Non-insulated covers None (R-1 to R-2 incidental) $1.75–$2.50 $18.84–$26.91
Medium-insulated covers R-4 to R-8 $2.50–$3.30 $26.91–$35.52
Highly insulated covers R-17 or greater $5.00–$7.00 $53.82–$75.35

Non-insulated covers

Evaporation control, algae suppression, odour and VOC reduction, wildlife exclusion, and source-water protection where heat retention is not the objective.

Medium-insulated covers

Sites that need meaningful heat retention alongside evaporation and algae control — process water, warm industrial ponds, and large reservoirs where a modest R-value pays for itself.

Highly insulated covers

Heated liquids where energy cost dominates the business case — anaerobic digestion, biogas, dairy lagoons, and cold-climate chemical storage.

Ranges exclude the resin index and freight, both covered below. Per-m² figures are converted from the per-sq-ft rate at 1 sq ft = 0.0929 m². Indicative only — not an offer or a quotation.

The Two Things That Move a Quote Off the Band

Resin surcharge

Separate line

Covers are indexed to polymer cost, which moves with the petrochemical market. Any surcharge is quoted as a separate line item at no markup — a straight pass-through of the resin producers’ price — and is confirmed at the time of order rather than folded into the product price. AWTT has applied it this way since 2020 so that product pricing does not have to change every time the resin market does.

Freight

+5% to +20%

Depends on distance from the supplying factory, transport mode, and port or inland access. AWTT supplies from Trenton SC, Tecate MX, Budapest, and Jebel Ali, so the nearest factory usually sets the number.

And that is the entire cost

A modular floating cover has no installation cost, no anchoring, no perimeter trenching, no structural support, and no pumps. The modules are poured onto the water and self-arrange. Total project cost equals the cover plus freight — nothing else. This is the line item that most often separates a modular cover from a geomembrane on a like-for-like comparison, where installation, ballast tubes, rainwater pumps, and perimeter anchoring are each their own contract.

Two Worked Examples

Both use Hexprotect® AQUA from the non-insulated tranche. The pair exists to show the volume effect, which is the single biggest lever on the rate.

One acre

43,560 sq ft (4,047 m²) · Hexprotect® AQUA

Cover $76,230–$108,900
Freight (+5–20%) $3,812–$21,780
Delivered total $80,042–$130,680

Below the 100,000 sq ft volume threshold, so expect the upper part of the band.

Installation: $0. Anchoring: $0. Add the resin surcharge applicable at time of order.

Large reservoir

250,000 sq ft (23,226 m²) · Hexprotect® AQUA

Cover $437,500
Freight (+5–20%) $21,875–$87,500
Delivered total $459,375–$525,000

Above the 100,000 sq ft threshold, so the large-quantity rate applies.

Installation: $0. Anchoring: $0. Add the resin surcharge applicable at time of order.

Six Factors That Move Price

Use this list to brief your stakeholders before requesting a quote.

Surface Area & Geometry

Square footage drives material volume. Irregular shapes (tapered banks, multi-cell lagoons, perimeter berms) affect cut-and-fit time and edge treatment.

Wind Exposure

Site wind zone determines which product family is appropriate (Armor Ball® for sheltered sites, Hexprotect® AQUA or Rhombo Hexoshield® for exposed reservoirs and frac ponds).

Climate & Insulation Needs

Frost-resistance and R-value requirements push toward insulated products (Hexprotect® MAX R, Rhombo Hexoshield® 189) at higher per-square-foot cost but with offsetting heating/treatment savings.

Logistics & Delivery

Domestic vs. international shipping, port access, customs handling, and crane requirements at the install site all factor in. AWTT supports projects globally through a North American-rooted manufacturing network.

Supply Only — No Installation Line

AWTT supplies product; it does not sell installation services. Modules are set at the water’s edge and poured straight in, so there is no installation figure in an AWTT quote. Only the forklift operator needs to be qualified.

Customization & Compliance

NSF/ANSI 61 certified resin for potable water, custom edge treatment for unusual perimeters, or branded modules add to project scope.

Estimating ROI Before You Request a Quote

For arid-region reservoirs, water savings alone often justify the project. The evaporation and ROI calculators generate a defensible water-savings number based on your local climate and pond geometry — useful for internal capex justification before you talk to a salesperson.

Other ROI drivers depending on application: algae-treatment chemical reduction (drinking water), digester heating cost reduction (biogas), odor-complaint mitigation (wastewater, dairy), and bird-strike or contamination liability reduction (airports, potable water).

What an AWTT Quote Includes

Included as Standard

  • Modular floating cover units engineered for your site conditions
  • Engineering review and product recommendation memo
  • Spare units included with every order
  • 10-year product warranty
  • Specification language and submittal documentation for bid packages

Quoted Separately or Customer-Provided

  • Installation — AWTT supplies product only and does not sell installation services
  • Site civil work, pond preparation, and existing-cover removal (when applicable)
  • Freight beyond the agreed delivery point and any customs duties
  • Taxes, fees, and duties on international orders
  • Annual visual inspection (recommended but not required)

Lead Times & Payment

Quote turnaround
Typically within 24 business hours of receiving complete site details.
Manufacturing lead time
Project-dependent. Small projects can ship within weeks; large reservoir projects are scheduled around production capacity and may span 60–120 days from PO.
Payment terms
Standard commercial terms with deposit at PO, balance milestones, and final on delivery. Net terms negotiated with established accounts.
International orders
AWTT has shipped to 25+ countries. Incoterms negotiated per project; we can quote DDP, FOB, or any standard term.
