About AWTT: Pioneers in Floating Cover Technology

We didn’t enter a market — we created one. For over 20 years, AWTT has led the global development of modular, self-ballasting floating covers that protect water, control emissions, and outlast every alternative on the market.

The Company That Started It All

Advanced Water Treatment Technologies (AWTT) was established in 2004 with a singular mandate: to solve the chronic water management problems — evaporation loss, odor emissions, algae blooms, wildlife contamination — that open liquid storage ponds create for industrial and agricultural operators worldwide.

In 2006, AWTT’s engineers completed the design and prototype of the world’s first self-ballasting hexagonal floating cover — a breakthrough that solved the fundamental limitation of earlier floating cover designs, which required mechanical anchoring or external ballast systems to maintain position under wind and wave loading. By distributing ballast mass within each cover element, AWTT’s design achieved passive stability at any scale without modification to the pond or basin.

That design was patented, refined, and released commercially in 2009 as Hexprotect® AQUA — the first self-ballasting hexagonal modular floating cover ever offered anywhere in the world. Today, AWTT has completed over 700 installations for 320+ customers across 25 countries, with more than 20 million square feet of modular floating cover deployed. Numerous competitors have attempted to copy AWTT’s hexagonal ballasted cover design. None have matched AWTT’s deployment scale, performance data, or operational track record.

20+ Years of Industry Firsts

From the first prototype in 2004 to global production lines serving five continents, every milestone reflects our commitment to engineering what didn’t exist before.

2004–2005

First Hybrid Cover Design

AWTT's founding engineers design the first hybrid segmented floating cover — establishing the modular floating cover category and the technical principles that underpin every AWTT product built since.

2006

First Self-Ballasting Floating Cover

AWTT designs and prototypes the world's first self-ballasting floating cover — an engineering breakthrough that eliminates the need for mechanical anchoring by distributing ballast mass within the cover element itself. The design is filed for patent protection.

2009

Hexprotect® AQUA — Global First Release

AWTT releases V1.0 of the Hexprotect® AQUA floating cover — the very first self-ballasting hexagonal floating cover available anywhere in the world. No other manufacturer had produced or commercialized this design before AWTT. It remains the industry benchmark today.

2010

AWTT Incorporation

Advanced Water Treatment Technologies is formally incorporated, bringing all product brands — Hexprotect® and Armor Ball® — under a unified corporate entity to support growing North American and international distribution.

Late 2010

Hexprotect® SLIM Launch

AWTT releases the first iteration of the Hexprotect® SLIM — a low-profile floating cover optimized for applications where minimal freeboard clearance and tight surface packing are required.

2012–2013

Rhombo Hexoshield® Prototype

AWTT engineers begin in-house prototyping and testing of the Rhombo Hexoshield® — a hybrid modular cover design targeting maximum evaporation reduction across large-format reservoirs and industrial impoundments.

2013

Extensive Outdoor Field Testing

AWTT initiates a rigorous 6+ month field testing program for all floating cover product lines — validating evaporation reduction rates, wind resistance, UV degradation resistance, frost tolerance, and chemical compatibility across real operating environments.

2014

Texas Production Expansion

A new production facility opens in Texas to serve growing demand from agricultural, oil & gas, and municipal water sectors across the southern United States — cutting lead times and improving supply chain reliability for North American customers.

2017

U.S. Department of Energy Award

AWTT becomes the first floating cover company recognized by the U.S. Department of Energy with a Sustainability Award. The Rhombo cover deployed at the Savannah River Site saved 55 million gallons of well water annually ($24,000/yr) while eliminating the need for an expensive treatment system — awarded in the Waste Reduction and Pollution Prevention category.

2022

Middle East Expansion & New Production Line

AWTT increases global production capacity with a new manufacturing line dedicated to serving customers across the Middle East — extending AWTT's footprint into the world's most water-stressed markets where floating cover ROI is highest.

2024–2026

Over 20 Years of Global Leadership

AWTT continues to advance next-generation cover materials, surface coatings, and modular interlocking geometries — cementing our legacy as the original inventor and leading global manufacturer of self-ballasting segmented floating covers.

Why AWTT Remains the Industry Standard

🏆

Original Inventor

AWTT designed and patented the world's first self-ballasting hexagonal floating cover in 2006. We wrote the engineering playbook that competitors are still trying to replicate.

🔬

Continuous R&D

Every AWTT product generation reflects active materials research, field data collection, and engineering iteration — not a static catalog from a decade-old design freeze.

🌍

Global Deployments

AWTT products are deployed across North America, Australia, the Middle East, and internationally — in climates ranging from Atacama desert heat to Canadian prairie winters at –85°F.

📋

Regulatory Track Record

AWTT covers are cited in air permit compliance demonstrations, NPDES permit applications, and EPA Surface Water Treatment Rule source water protection plans by water utilities and industrial operators.

🏛

DOE Recognized

The first and only floating cover company to receive a U.S. Department of Energy sustainability award — recognizing the measurable water and energy conservation impact of the Rhombo Hexoshield®.

🔧

10-Year Warranty

Every AWTT product carries a 10-year warranty and is engineered for a 25-year operational lifespan from UV-stabilized, frost-resistant HDPE rated for pH 2–13 chemical environments.

Work With the Company That Invented the Category

Whether you’re managing an agricultural lagoon, a municipal reservoir, or an industrial process pond — AWTT has been solving your exact problem longer than any other floating cover manufacturer in the world.
